1857 25C MS66 PCGS. Although there was no longer a need for a distinguishing feature on the obverse or reverse of the Seated Quarter, mintage figures remained high at the Philadelphia Mint from 1856 through 1861. The 1857 boasts the highest total in this group with more than 9.6 million pieces delivered. As such, it is a popular representative of the No Motto type in all grades. The present lot offers a wonderfully original Gem with golden-red, cobalt-blue, and lavender-gray target toning on the obverse. The reverse is no less attractive with dappled olive-orange tinting over a base of lilac-gray color. The semi-prooflike features reveal scattered die polish lines (as struck) in the fields, but a few small reverse bagmarks around the eagle's beak are the only distractions of note. The eye appeal is truly exquisite, and the technical quality is solid for the MS66 level. We feel confident in predicting a premium realized price for this coin.
