1857 1C PR65 NGC. Provided one ignores the numerous pattern issues of 1856, fewer than 1,000 proof Flying Eagle cents were coined in the two years of the design, with an estimated 485 of those struck with the date 1857. Allowing for a degree of attrition, it seems reasonable to estimate that fewer than 600 specimens exist across both dates, with unimpaired survivors fewer still. Such statistics reinforce the value of this boldly impressed and exceptionally appealing Gem. The medium-brown surfaces, which display die polishing lines in the obverse fields, have vivid splashes of midnight-blue, violet, and pink. The fields are well-preserved and free of major distractions, as befits the grade. Struck from improper die alignment with the reverse rotated about 30 degrees clockwise. Census: 5 in 65, 1 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
