<B>1857 1C MS65 PCGS.</B></I> The 1857 small cents are the first circulation strikes of the new small cents, and as such they and the 1858-1860 Flying Eagle and Indian cents were produced in enormous numbers (relative to the times) as the government tried to retire the old copper half-cents and cents. The Mint's inexperience with coining the new-size coins and the many dies required for such a prodigious mintage created many new die varieties and error coins. Pleasing almond-tan surfaces lack any visible carbon and radiate much luster.
