1857 1/2 C PR65 Red and Brown NGC. B-2, C-1, R.4. Despite its status as the more common of the two die marriages of the proof 1857 Half Cent, B-2 is still a scarce coin that is readily identifiable by a double impression on the T in CENT. This particular example combines a mostly lustrous, cherry-red obverse with a predominantly toned, medium brown reverse. The latter side, however, does reveal pink-red and powder-blue undertones at direct angles. The strike is razor sharp in all areas, and there is appreciable reflectivity in the fields that is most readily evident on the obverse. That side also reveals some scattered flyspecks, as well as an identifying spot in the field below Liberty's chin. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
