1857 1/2 C PR64 Brown PCGS. B-2, R.4. This variety was produced using what Breen refers to as "Reverse C of 1856," and it is most easily identifiable by doubling on the T in CENT. All proof Half Cents are rare, and the final-year 1857 is no exception. Attractive and original, the present specimen reveals mottled electric-blue, gold, and orange-apricot colors beneath dominant copper-brown toning. Both sides are sharply struck with no outwardly distracting blemishes. A few wispy contact marks at the top of Liberty's portrait, nevertheless, are mentioned for pedigree purposes. We last offered a similarly graded proof 1857 Half Cent as lot 5020 in our June 2002 Long Beach Signature Sale. That coin, certified by NGC, sold for $3,220. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
