1857<1/2 C> PR64 Brown PCGS. B-2, R.4. This variety was produced using what Breen refers to as "Reverse C of 1856," and it is most easily identifiable by doubling on the T in CENT. All proof Half Cents are rare, and the final-year 1857 is no exception. Attractive and original, the present specimen reveals mottled electric-blue, gold, and orange-apricot colors beneath dominant copper-brown toning. Both sides are sharply struck with no outwardly distracting blemishes. A few wispy contact marks at the top of Liberty's portrait, nevertheless, are mentioned for pedigree purposes. Certified in an old green label holder.
Ex: Santa Clara Signature Sale (Heritage, 11/02), lot 5065.
