<B>1856-S G$1 Type Two MS60 NGC.</B></I> While the Philadelphia Mint Type Two gold dollars are expensive in Mint State grades, they are not particularly rare. However, the 1856-S Type Two gold dollar is a rarity in Mint State grades. It is the only S-mint issue of this short-lived design, with a mintage of just 24,600 coins. At least two reverse dies were used, as one variety has a sharply doubled mintmark. It appears that the Normal Mintmark variety (as offered here) is actually somewhat scarcer. This piece has delightful yellow-gold luster with slightly reflective surfaces.
