<B>1856-S G$1 Type Two AU58 PCGS.</B></I> The 1856-S, with a mintage of 24,600 pieces, is difficult to acquire above Extremely Fine. Neither PCGS nor NGC has, to date, seen any Gem examples. The high-end AU specimen presented in this lot displays peach-gold surfaces that retain ample luster. The design elements exhibit an above average strike, and there are no marks of major consequence. A die crack travels from the rim through the E of AMERICA to the lower bonnet, and another runs from the neck to the U in UNITED. This is the "Double S" variety, where the initial S mintmark was punched too high and to the right.
