1856-S $20 No Serif, Left S MS63 PCGS. Prior to the establishment of the mint in 1854, private minters struck coins of questionable fineness. This was followed by the quasi-official Assay Office tens and twenties. Augustus Humbert also struck the fifty dollar "slugs," coins that Tommy Thompson called "wildly unpopular" in America's Lost Treasure. Prior to the discovery of the S.S. Central America, Type One twenties were among the rarest 19th century gold coins in mint condition. This is a truly remarkable coin, regardless of whether it is a Type One, Type Two, or Type Three. The mint luster is phenomenal, as seen on all the recovered coins. Fully struck, the only marks that account for the grade are located on the highpoint of Liberty's cheek and across the bridge of the nose. A wonderful type coin. Accompanied by all the packaging from Blanchard.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
