1856-S<$2 1/2> MS64 PCGS. A tough coin to find in this very pleasing grade, and this is certainly one of the top dozen or so to exist. The strike is full and complete on the obverse stars and curls of Liberty, and similarly sharp on the eagle's shield and claws. Satiny luster and attractive orange-gold in color. Few mint state coins retain the lovely surfaces and quality seen here, as most have far more handling marks and are cast into lower grades by time and attrition. Close examination with a loupe finds little to fault, just a couple of trivial ticks and scuffs which kept this one from an even higher grade. Identifiable by a very small planchet flake on the middle right of the A in STATES. A delight for the specialist of the series, and a coin which any collector would be proud to own. Population: 4 in 64, 3 finer (11/05).
