<B>1856-S $2 1/2 MS60 NGC.</B></I> The 1856-S is noteworthy as the first collectible San Francisco issue of the denomination. The 1854-S is a spectacular rarity, and the denomination was passed over in 1855, probably since mint resources concentrated on double eagle production. Most '56-S survivors grade between XF and AU. This luminous and intricately struck example has a few wispy marks, but fewer than expected of the grade.
