JEFFERSON “JEFF” DAVIS (1808-1889). American Statesman, U.S. Secretary of War; Served as Confederate States of America President for the CSA’s entire Civil War history.
April 13, 1856-Dated Pre Civil War, Partly-Printed Document Military Appointment Signed, “Franklin Pierce” as President and “Jeffers. Davis” as Secretary of War, Choice Very Fine. This ornately engraved military commission is of the design with American Eagle above and a splay of militaria at bottom, document is mounted on a heavier cardboard from prior display, measuring 13.25” wide x 17.25” high, being full and complete. Appointing Alfred Cumming First Lieutenant in the 10th Regiment of Infantry. Small notation at bottom right margin, having light tone, complete with a massive signature of Franklin Pierce measuring 4.5” long and Jefferson Davis 3.25” long, both signing in brown ink. This scarce dual historic signature document is ready to be properly framed for display.
