<B>1856-O 50C "Shipwreck Effect" NGC.</B></I> Ex: S.S. Republic. Doubled 56. Not actually graded by NGC, but with the sharpness of MS60 or so. The finely granular surfaces on both sides are the result of long term exposure to the sand found on the ocean floor. Until recently, it was believed that this corrosive appearance was the result of the salt in ocean water; however, modern research seems to indicate that a type of sand blasting process is the cause.
