1856 N-6 R1 Upright 5 PCGS graded MS65 Red & BrownLustrous mint red just starting to mellow to light steel brown with 75% of the original mint color remaining on both sides. A sharp cent with outstanding eye appeal. The only marks are a microscopic planchet chip high on the neck at the jawline (as struck), a light mark mid-jawline, and a tick on the truncation over the 8. None of these marks is visible without the aid of a glass. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The dull spike off the bust tip (actually the peak of a stray 1) is obvious and the fine die lines at OF-A are clear. An impressive example of the "Upright 5" type. Our grade is MS64+, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label.Certificate Number: 404589.65/81368699Pedigree: Ex American Numismatic Rarities 3/2006:137-Haig Koshkarian, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 2/12/2017:148-Fred H.
