1856 H10C PR63 PCGS. One of the very scarce proofs 1856[H10C] PR63 PCGS.
<B>1856<H10C> PR63 PCGS.</B></I> One of the very scarce proofs from 1856, struck two years prior to the higher commercial production of proof coinage which began in 1858. Diagnostically correct according to the Breen (1977) reference, the fields are moderately mirrored and both sides are covered with a thin layer of milky patina. In the Breen reference he mentions the Nail coin (1947) as having the underdigit of a 4. With this coin there is a trace of some sort of recutting or repunching beneath the 6, but we cannot say for certain if it is a 4. Nevertheless, a rarely seen proof and one of perhaps only 30-40 survivors today. Population: 6 in 63, 9 finer (7/05).
