1856 Fort Yamhill military receipt signed by a young Indian fighter Lt. William Hazen
Receipt is for a carpenter working on public buildings at New Post Fort Yamhill. Hazen was an 1855 West Point graduate and sent to California/Oregon for the Rogue River wars. He was in charge of the soldiers building Fort Yamhill. He was sent to Texas where he was seriously wounded twice fighting the Comanche's. Fought in the Civil War and gained fame for his famous stand at Round Forest at the Stones River battle. As a Colonel he was the leader of the all black "Buffalo Soldiers." As a Brigadier General was involved in the scandal of the Greely Arctic Expedition. Comes with a biographical sketch. Rare Oregon Territory military document showing the building of Fort Yamhill.
