This is a superb and rare original mid 19th century English early Victorian Rococo Revival Elizabethan style inkstand in sterling silver and crystal. Made in 1856 by Henry Wilkinson & Co in Sheffield, England. This is a wonderfully large and heavy decorative object. The tray is pierced, hand chased & has a repousse border of scrolls and acanthus leaves, on Rococo Revival scrolled feet. In the middle of the tray are two hand cut Mellon shaped crystal ink pot both with Sterling silver Repousse lids. The set is hallmarked 5 times with hallmarks on each lid, on each base for the put and under the tray. The Hallmarks are H W & Co for Horace Woodward & Co a croqwn the Sheffield city mark a N for the year 1856 a standing Lion the sterling mark and Queen Victoria's head as the Sovereign mark. Height 4" /1/2 by 9" 1/2 long by 6" 1/2 deep.
