<B>1856-C $5 MS61 NGC.</B></I> Variety 24-J, the only die pair for the issue. The 1856-C half eagle is still underrated, when compared to certain other Charlotte issues. While the population data of NGC and PCGS suggest that 11 examples are similar to this piece, the total certainly includes a few resubmissions. Even more telling is the fact that the two grading services have certified just three finer coins.<BR> Both sides have satiny light yellow luster with faint abrasions that are expected at this numerical grade. The surfaces are light yellow with full brilliance. This is a remarkable and highly desirable specimen.
