<B>1856-C $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 17-J. Winter writes that the 1856-C is "one of the worst struck coins from the Charlotte Mint," and this piece shows a typical strike for the issue. On a more positive note, much luster clings to the yellow-gold surfaces, and there are no singular abrasions noted, only light field chatter that is consistent with the grade. The canal-shaped groove that runs from Liberty's chin down to the second star is characteristic of the issue.
