<B>1856 3CS PR64 PCGS.</B></I> We do not know how many proof three cent silvers were produced in 1856, but Breen (1977) does speculate that 30-40 pieces are extant. Since several of the survivors are impaired to one degree or another, the present near-Gem is undoubtedly one of the finer representatives available to today's specialists. This is a richly toned sea-green and golden-brown example with hints of underlying reflectivity. The major devices are well struck, while letters and stars near the border show occasional softness.
