<B>1856 3CS MS65 PCGS.</B></I> This little Gem trime displays a medley of pastel mauve, gold, and sky-blue patination on the obverse, while the reverse takes on deep forest-green and purple. A sharper strike than usually seen on the 1854-1858 design type (Type Two) brings up generally strong definition on the motifs. David Bowers (1988) writes that: "Of all three types of the silver three cent denomination, the 1854-58 style is the most difficult to locate. Few Uncirculated pieces were saved at the time of issue, so pieces in Mint State are quite rare today."
