1856 3CS MS64 PCGS. The Act of March 3, 1853 chang
1856 3CS MS64 PCGS. The Act of March 3, 1853 changed the composition of the three cent silver from 75% silver, 25% copper to 90% silver, 10% copper. In order to denote this change, Longacre added two extra outlines to the obverse star, as well as an olive branch and a bundle of arrows within the C on the reverse. This Type Two design was used from 1854-1858 and, since mintages were limited, these issues are the most difficult to obtain for type purposes. This is an unusually well defined example that has bright, glittering mint luster with an overlay of rose-golden toning on the obverse and lilac patina on the reverse. Lot:5651
