1856 1C XF45 PCGS. Snow-3. Judd-180. The Snow-3 business strikes are scarcer than the Snow-9 proofs, and are also in greater demand since they were presumably struck in 1856. The Snow-3 pieces were distributed (per Breen) in 1856 to "Treasury officials, senators, representatives, and other VIPs." The Snow-9 is considered a restrike issue, struck a couple of years later to meet the unexpected demand from collectors. It is possible that some Snow-9 pieces were struck in 1856, and some Snow-3 pieces may have been struck circa 1858. The present medium brown example shows light wear on the cotton leaves and the eagle's breast. The plumage and borders retain glimpses of luster. There are no consequential marks and spots. A delightful, lightly circulated representative of this historic pattern.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
