1856 1C PR65 NGC. Snow-9. On this important Gem specimen, attribution of the most frequently encountered proof die pairing is most easily made by the short die gouge on the lower left ribbon end on the reverse. Snow-9 is believed to have been struck in ensuing years, perhaps even into the 1860s, to satisfy growing collector demand for the popular new small-sized design. The major design elements are struck with the pinpoint sharpness expected of a proof striking. While imparting a rather modest degree of reflectivity, any subtlety is more the result of mottled orange and steel-blue highlights rather than the actual depth of mirrors. 1856 Flying Eagle cents hold the same fascination with collectors today that they did a century and a half ago.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
