1856 1C PR64 PCGS.
1856 1C PR64 PCGS. Snow-9. Die State D. The die line through the U in UNITED and a faint die crack (all as produced) below the eagle's beak confirm the die state. An exquisitely struck near-Gem that has exceptionally clean fields. The obverse is especially well preserved, although a pair of miniscule planchet flaws are found near the right pendant of the T in UNITED. The reverse rim at 10 o'clock has a mint-made recessed area, and the lowest left side cotton leaf has a small contact mark. The 1856 Flying Eagle Cent has tremendous numismatic importance as the initial Small Cent issue, and as a date it is easily the scarcest Small Cent. Although technically a pattern, the quantity of circulated survivors ensures that pieces were released into circulation, similar to the 1836 Gobrecht Dollars from which the Flying Eagle motif was borrowed. Encapsulated in an older green label PCGS holder. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
