1856 1C PR63 PCGS. Snow-9. This variety, one of the 1856 Flying Eagle cent varieties that exists only in proof format, is identified by the small reverse die line on the left ribbon bow coupled with the obverse die lines above the I in UNITED and on the forward edge of the eagle's wing. Tinges of muted mint red appear around the device outlines, with iridescent olive, aqua, and tan coloration much evident elsewhere. A small gouge is noted between the eagle's head and the rim at 9 o'clock, and on the reverse a small planchet lamination is noted, as made, between EN in CENT. A nice midgrade proof example of this always in-demand issue.

Coin Engraver: James B.
