1856 1C PR63 PCGS. Snow-9. This intricately struck specimen is primarily olive-brown with occasional light rose patina. A few minor retained laminations are present on the obverse, but these can only be seen with the aid of a strong lens. The C in CENT has slight flaking. The 1856 Flying Eagle cent is credited with launching the first coin collecting boom in the United States. By 1860, commerce was inundated with 1857 and 1858 examples of the type, but the 1856 could only be obtained from coin dealers, who charged one dollar apiece for the low mintage issue.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
