1856 1C PR62 PCGS. Snow-9. The usual proof variety of this date. Die lines between the rim and I of UNITED, and on the eagle's left (facing) wing, confirm the Snow attribution, in conjunction with a centering dot and a die gouge within the left ribbon end on the reverse. The Flying Eagle cent is important as the first small cent type, and as a scarce three-year type which is often linked to the Indian Head cent series by collectors. This specimen is well struck and nicely preserved. Several planchet laminations (as struck) are noted near the lower left obverse border. Some charcoal-colored verdigris appears near the left obverse border and on the eagle's right (facing) wing, and probably limited the grade assigned by PCGS.

Coin Engraver: James B.
