1856 1C PR62 PCGS. Snow-9. Most easily identified
1856 1C PR62 PCGS. Snow-9. Most easily identified as a S-9 by the faint die scratch through the U in UNITED down to the eagle's beak. This variety is by far the most frequently encountered of the various 1856 Flying Eagle die marriages. It is believed that proofs from this die pairing were produced from late 1857 through 1860. This naturally colored amber and reddish-gold specimen has better-than-average reflective qualities for the issue. A few faint hairlines are seen on the reverse and there are a couple of minor disturbances on the opposite side, most notably below the eagle's tail. Desirable quality for this classic transitional issue. Lot:5189
