1856 1C PR58 ANACS. Undoubtedly an early striking from
1856<1C> PR58 ANACS. Undoubtedly an early striking from the Snow-9 dies, since the spur on the left ribbon end is lengthy, and die lines through the U and I in UNITED are prominent. A whisper of friction on the eagle's breast confirms momentary non-numismatic handling, but mint gloss is essentially intact, and the eye appeal is that of a finer grade. Golden-brown toning is relatively light in the centers, and deepens slightly near the rims. For those who accept the challenge of documenting known examples of 1856 Flying Eagle cents, this piece can be identified by a tiny tan spot beneath the right wreath termination, and a couple of subtle marks southeast of the N in CENT.
