Snow (2001) opines that approximately 700 Snow-3 examples were delivered in 1856 and early 1857. In addition to testing the new coin on a press run, these pieces probably constituted all of the 634 1856 Flying Eagle Cents distributed to Congressmen during the period of debate for what would eventually become the Act of February 21, 1857. This mostly honey-tan representative is free of bothersome handling marks. There is a splash of powder-blue color in the center of the reverse. Carefully preserved with only a few wispy carbon flecks and some isolated striking softness at the front and back of the obverse eagle and the top and bottom of the reverse wreath precluding an even finer grade.
