1856<1C> MS62 PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal, Card Included. Snow-3. This coin is probably one of the 634-800 non-proof 1856 Flying Eagle cents that the Philadelphia Mint produced in 1856. Snow (2001) states that most of these coins were distributed to members of Congress as examples of the new copper-nickel cent. This is a satiny example whose fields exhibit a modest glow at certain angles. The surfaces are toned in tan-brown color with no mentionable blemishes save for a few minuscule carbon spots in the reverse field around the denomination. A little softly struck over the eagle's central breast feathers, which is characteristic of nearly all representatives of the Snow-3 delivery.
From The Tide Collection.
