<B>1856 $1 PR64 NGC.</B></I> The 1856 and 1857 proofs in the Queller Collection share the same reverse die. Diagnostics include die rust on the left base of the L in DOL, and die lines above the IT in UNITED and between the TES in STATES. Die lines through ONE DOL are noticeable on the 1856, but are faded from the 1857. According to Bowers, this reverse die was also used for some 1858 proofs. The present specimen has beautiful peripheral electric-blue, fire-red, and golden-brown toning. The fields and devices are generally brilliant. The strike is penetrating, and the eye appeal is exceptional. Census: 16 in 64, 6 finer (2/08).<BR><I>Ex: Amon G.
