1856 1/2 C PR65 Red and Brown NGC. B-3, R.4. This variety, along with the 1852 1-B, the 1841 Original, and the 1833, are the four most commonly encountered proof Half Cents (if any can be termed as such). Breen estimates that 200 pieces were struck on July 25, and today perhaps as many as 60 pieces may still be extant in all grades and colorations. This variety is distinguished by the doubled T in CENT on the reverse. The surfaces retain most of the original mint red with occasional dabs of blue-brown in the fields. There are no contact marks or other impairments that one can see with the unaided eye. An excellent representative of this difficult proof type. Population: 1 in 65, 1 finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
