Matte surface from sea water immersion, but very boldly struck and no doubt this was mint state or close to it when it "went down with the ship." A petite Liberty head is set just a little off center within a circle of 13 stars, with the date 1855 below. The reverse has a small eagle that shows much feather detail in spite of being slightly weak from insufficient die pressure in this area. 900 THOUS fineness on a scroll above the eagle. A difficult Wass Molitor issue and just one of very few pieces that have been offered over the past decade. Listed on page 305 of the 2005 Guide Book.
