1855<S$1> AU58 PCGS. Mint records indicate a production of just 26,000 silver dollars in 1855, and Walter Breen reported that all of these were struck on June 29, 1855. As the newly formed San Francisco Mint would not produce Silver Dollars for a few more years, many of these Philadelphia pieces were sent out west, and possibly exported overseas. An above average strike with a trace of softness on some of the obverse stars. Modestly prooflike surfaces, and some luster, are evident beneath an overlay of dappled apricot, gold and gray toning, with normal marks for the grade. Rare in all grades.
