1855 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-168 Original, Pollock
<B>1855<P1C> Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-168 Original, Pollock-193, R.4, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS.</B></I> An eagle flies level on the obverse, sharing elements of both the Titian Peale/Christian Gobrecht designs for the Gobrecht dollar reverses and the Flying Eagle cent obverse, and yet considerably less effective in execution than either of those successes. This issue is struck in bronze with a plain edge and is slightly smaller than a large cent, as part of the continuing series of experiments to reduce the size of the then-current old coppers. Thirteen stars surround the eagle. The reverse is similar to the large cent reverse, with a smaller wreath around the denomination. Some light clash marks are seen on each side. Much original red, a bit more than half, still clings to the attractive surfaces. Population: 14 in 64, 2 finer (7/06).
