<B>1855-O<H10C> Arrows MS67 PCGS.</B></I> Several varieties are known from six obverse and four reverse dies. Distinguishing between these varieties is primarily based on date and arrow positions. The present example has large arrows to the left and right of the date, and they are placed high in the exergue, overlapping the rock below Liberty. The shafts of these arrows are level with the top of the date, and both extend nearly to the border. In fact, the combined length of the two arrowheads is greater than the width of the date. The obverse of this example is lapped, heavily rusted, and it extensively cracked. Die cracks join every star on both sides to Liberty's head and the cap, with a heavy die chip on the top surface of the cap. The obverse is also heavily rusted, visible primarily on the devices as die lapping diminished the appearance of die rust in the fields. The lapping process also removed some of the design detail above the arrowheads. The reverse is a newer die with clash marks visible inside the wreath, but no evidence of die cracks or rust. Diagonal die file marks slant down from the border dentils to the tops of TED S. This Superb Gem is remarkably well detailed and it is fully brilliant with bright silver surfaces. The obverse has frosty luster due to the die rust, and the reverse has satiny luster. Neither side has any noticeable marks on the essentially pristine surfaces. Population: 1 in 67, 0 finer (4/06).
