1855-O $20 XF45 PCGS. Once the San Francisco Mint opened in 1854, mintage of double eagles in New Orleans dropped substantially. Only 13,500 pieces were coined from 1854 through 1856, including just 8,000 coins in 1855. While the 1854-O and 1856-O double eagles are both classic rarities, the 1855-O can be obtained with a little patience, yet fewer than 100 are thought to exist.
Vibrant green-gold surfaces with faint traces of light orange toning. Both sides are noticeably abraded, a common characteristic of the rare 1855-O double eagle. Despite the surface marks, there are no individually significant blemishes that need to be described. The overall appearance is still quite acceptable.

Coin Engraver: James B.
