<B>1855-O $20 AU55 PCGS.</B></I> The 1855-O, sandwiched between two of the most elusive double eagle issues ever produced, is a coveted issue in its own right. With a mintage of just 8,000 pieces and an estimated survival rate of 1%, according to figures given by Winter (2006), it ranks as the least available of the second-tier New Orleans double eagle rarities, and any piece Extremely Fine or above is a condition rarity.<BR> This Choice AU representative is one of the finest examples of the 1855-O available today. The pale green-gold fields show strong, distinctly reflective luster that is largely unaffected by the coin's minor wear. Both sides show better-than-average detail, and on the obverse, even the often-weak left stars have visible lines and centers. While the margins display scattered abrasions and a planchet flaw is noted to the left of Liberty's neck, the overall eye appeal is better than the grade might suggest, as the coin shows fewer marks than usual on the portrait.
