1855 N-5 R5+ MS65. The obverse is slightly faded mint red toning to bluish steel on the highpoints, more than half the red remaining. The reverse is lustrous very faded underlying red mostly toning to light bluish steel. The surfaces are satiny and very attractive, the satiny luster covering even the highest points of the design. There are a few minor ticks on the rims, strongest at the ribbon tip and D in UNITED, but everything inside the dentils is flawless. A gem cent, finest known of this rare variety by a good margin. MDS, die state a late. The die lapping line from the lowest curl to star 10 is faint but still visible. DWH #2689.
