1855 N-11 R6- Italic 55 Proof-Only
1855 N-11 R6- Italic 55 Proof-Only. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. Very slightly faded red mellowing to bluish steel brown, about 85% of the red remaining. The fields are reflective with moderately deep mirrors on the obverse, deeper ones on the reverse. The eye appeal on the obverse is affected somewhat by a fingerprint on the neck, cheek, and in the field at stars 1-3, plus some tiny spots of darker bluish steel toning scattered about. The reverse has some of the small bluish steel spots, but it is free of fingerprints or carbon. Lots of original mint color remains and the overall eye appeal of this cent is excellent. Called Proof-63 and tied for CC#6 in the Denis Loring census of proof large cents. Our grade is Proof-62, CC#5 in the Grellman census, but this one displays the most original mint color. Comes from a long line of highly distinguished owners. The attribution and Dan Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only Proof Red & Brown graded at PCGS for this variety. DWH #1872 (PCGS # 400598) .
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.
