1855 N-10 R1 Italic 55 11-Star Die State MS62.
1855 N-10 R1 Italic 55 11-Star Die State MS62. Lustrous light steel brown with subtle underlying very faded mint color bleeding through the attractive toning. Great eye appeal, virtually flawless except for the huge low spot. EDS+, die state d. Stars 1 and 6 are obliterated by a very large and rather rectangular low spot (caused by debris on the die) that is quite deep extending from the bust tip to the right edge of star 2 reaching up to the right edge of star 5 and left edge of star 7. The fields are still hard and prooflike indicating this die state was not far removed from the earliest business strikes of the variety. While a few other examples are known of die state d (the 11-star version), no other example has been found with a low spot nearly this large. A really neat cent. DWH #3165.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
