1855 G$1 MS65 PCGS. The Type Two gold dollar was a three-year production with a small Indian Head obverse design by James Longacre. The design change was associated with a slightly increased diameter intended to make these coins easier to handle by consumers. While the diameter remained constant for the remainder of the series through 1889, the obverse design was modified in 1856 due to striking characteristics. The highest relief of the obverse is the over Liberty's forehead down to the ear, and the depth of the die at this point created weakness at the opposing point of the reverse, including the date. This piece has clash marks on the reverse, including LIBERTY, that shows the exact location of the opposing points of the design, although the strike on this Gem is sharp enough that the design weakness is not immediately evident. This example has full mint brilliance with frosty yellow-gold luster. The surfaces are pristine and the eye appeal is exceptional.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
