1855 G$1 Type Two MS64 NGC. In 1854 it was decided by Mint officials that the gold dollar was too small and thick for its weight. James Longacre adapted his three dollar gold design in creating a slightly broader and thinner coin. The Type Two gold dollar features Liberty wearing a headdress rather than a coronet, as on the Type One; and Liberty is encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, rather than thirteen peripheral stars. This near-Gem example is highly lustrous and features pleasing shades of peach and honey-gold. Both sides show prominent die clashing, which is not unusual, but the coin's striking details are definitely better than average for the issue, especially on DOLLAR and on the date.
From The Freedom Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
