1855<G$1> MS64 NGC. Beautiful peach and mint-green coloration is fully illuminated by bright, frosty effulgence on each side. Bold die clash marks are evident in the fields. The two Ls in DOLLAR are typically mushy, but the 8 in the date is completely defined. The carefully preserved surfaces are free of severe marks, as expected, but a faint pinscratch is noted that extends from approximately 2 o'clock to about 6 o'clock on the obverse rim.
The Type II gold dollar was produced from 1854 through 1856. It features Liberty wearing a headdress rather than a beaded, inscribed coronet, as on the Type I; and Liberty is encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, rather than thirteen peripheral stars.
