This rare and historically interesting First Edition Hardcover Book has its original green cloth boards, stamped with an elaborate, repeating design. Calf spine features four raised hubs, decorated with a wave pattern below and above each hub, gilt design within each compartment, except the top, which has a contrasting spine label of black, lettered in gilt. It has a gilt title on the spine, 449 pages, measures 5.5" x 7.75". Overall book in in worn condition with its corners bumped, minor wear to ends of spine, scattered foxing with some heavier areas to the outer portions of most pages. Nice frontis Illustration of “THE GREAT SALT LAKE CITY.” which was made about 1854 showing how few buildings were standing at that time and an overview of the period in the valley. Mrs. Ferris was wife of Benjamin G. Ferris, once-Secretary of the Utah Territory between 1852 ann 1853, was a practicioner of the Swedenborgen faith. It is said that his utter distaste for Mormons essentially derailed a promising career. This very rare title is the very first issue of this Mormon interest book we have offered.
