1855-D G$1 XF40 Ex: Jewelry, Polished Uncertified. Winter 7-I, the only known dies. The '55-D is the only Type Two Gold Dollar produced in the Dahlonega Mint. A mere 1,811 pieces were produced, and Winter (1997) notes that survivors rank second in overall rarity (after those of the 1861-D) among the 13 D-mint issues in the Gold Dollar series. Both sides are glossy in texture with green-gold color that brightens to yellow-gold shades at direct angles. The lack of sizeable and/or singularly distracting abrasions strengthens the eye appeal, but we do note a few hairlines here and there. Typically struck for the type with noteworthy softness of detail in the centers. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
