1855 $50 Wass Molitor Fifty Dollar--Repaired--NCS. XF Details. K-9, R.5. Samuel Wass and Agoston Molitor had both been active in their native Hungary's was for independence. They emigrated to California in 1850 and 1851 respectively, traveling via London. The two established an assaying office in October 1851. Wass had wide-ranging knowledge of mining, chemistry, and mineralogy, while Molitor was an assayer. The pair established one of the most respected private mints in the San Francisco area. The few coins that remain today of this successful partnership are among the most avidly sought-after of all territorial issues. This fifty dollar piece has bright green-gold color and few of the abrasions one would associate with a coin of this size. The surfaces have obviously been smoothed as indicated by the NCS disclaimer, and both sides are bright from polishing. Still, this represents a rare opportunity to acquire a large-size Wass Molitor, and should be seriously considered by the territorial specialist.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
