<B>1855 $50 Kellogg & Co. Fifty Dollar Gem Proof PCGS.</B></I> Struck on August 21, 2001, with a proof mintage on that date of only 84 pieces. The initials C.H.S. are seen on both the counterstamp and on the ribbon, and refer to the California Historical Society. Struck on gold alloy from ingots recovered from the <I>S.S. Central America.</B></I> An essentially pristine example, with exquisitely struck design elements.
